The Peryls Guide to the Extraordinarium

What is an Extraordinarium?

This is a question that has been debated over the finest of dinner tables and philosophised by the greatest minds of the 21st Century. Ordinarily one would expect something extra to the ordinary or something simply extraordinary. Confused? Me too. The Peryls dictionary describes it thus...

“a recurring event of no set interval with indeterminate theme. It pops up whenever it jolly well feels like it and takes place at times and venues that carefully follow a plan we haven’t written yet.”

In summary, I think the honest answer is that no one knows.

But what will happen?

It's difficult to say. Everyone's experience of an Extraordinarium is different. A friend of mine was delighted to have been groped by a Bad Santa one year, while another was propositioned by a diseased Victorian whore (reanimating her is an experience I have no wish to repeat).

Other highlights that spring to mind are Edwardian Snuff Pornos, dead dogs and sinking ships. What I can tell you about the Jubilee Extraordinarium is that you will hear about the misdeeds of the delectable Ruby Corset and hear Alex Highton play some tunes from the beautifully crafted Woodditton Wives Club.

We will be getting into the street party spirit with Thumb Wars, a Gurning Competition and even the village fete favourite...a Tombola! You will have the chance to compete for a top prize by writing an alternative version of the National Anthem. The winning entry will be performed by yours truly that very night in honour of dear Liz.

I'm scared and I want my Mum

That's understandable, I'm scared too. It's important to remember that no one has ever been injured at an Extraordinarium and generally people leave in high spirits. You will be in a place with beer and bunting – how bad can it be?

I don't know what to wear?

We don't care if you turn up in your pants but if you would like to enter the true spirit of things then circa 1952 would be spiffing. If you are still unsure then don't panic because our dear friend Annette of the wonderful Vintage Hart is beavering away to produce a style guide for all you Extraordinites.

So where does this Extrao...Extro... what you said, take place?

It’s at the Gipsy Hill Tavern, right next to Gipsy Hill station. It kicks off at 7PM prompt!

Ok, I'm in. What do I need to do?

You need to buy a ticket on the interweb - just click here! - Tickets are only available online.

Can't I pay on the door?

No... and it’s not a ‘door’ it’s a gateway to another realm.

I'm excited! Erm...that's good. Long live the Queen and all that!
